5 Tips to bring joy, strength and inspiration into your life

journalThe best thing about journaling is that anybody can do it – no special skills required. You don’t have to be a skilled writer, creative genious or spelling whiz to keep a journal.  Here is a great way to get started on this healing pastime.

Journaling is a continued series of writings based on personal experiences and events.  It’s a great way to find inner strength and inspiration in everyday life.  This is especially true when faced with an illness.  When I was diagnosed with breast cancer last year it truly helped me to de-clutter my emotions, give me clarity on what I needed to do, and cleared the way to acceptance, bravery and strength.

5 Tips to Get You Started
Always remember that your journal is just for you and it can be created anyway that you want it to be – including pictures.  Your own inspiring thoughts or “a-ha” moments can help you realize your own strength and gain perspective.

1. There is a difference between a diary and a journal.  A diary chronicles daily events – journaling is about recording your innermost thoughts and feelings.

2. When journaling on your computer, create a special folder and desktop icon for easy accessibility. You want to find your page quickly when the urge to write strikes!

3. Purchase or design a unique notebook that you love – one that really speaks to you.  You can be as elaborate (and expensive) or as plain and simple as you like.  Just make it uniquely yours!

4. Journaling is a no-pressure commitment. You can write as much or as little as life permits on any particular day.  You can even draw or doodle if you prefer – you’d be surprised what that leads to.

5. Keep your journal in a private place.  Journaling is for your eyes only.  It is a place for you to record your emotions without being concerned over what others might think.
